They remain on the list above, because we still would not recommend either for China — but "we do not recommend this" is a different claim from "this does not work", and we should not have conflated them.

Why Do NordVPN and ProtonVPN Fail in China?

The Great Firewall (GFW) uses machine learning to detect "High Entropy" traffic. NordVPN and ProtonVPN all utilize standard protocol signatures that are identified by the GFW's Entropy Analysis within milliseconds, triggering an immediate TCP Reset (RST) packet.
